This painting is of a still life using acrylic's. The objects featured in this image are items such as rucksack, block of wood etc. I like this piece as the colours are really bold.
These images show some of Roy Lichtenstein's best Art work. Pop art is a big influence within my designs. Andy Warhol is another great Pop Artist that i admire.
This image illustrates the use of sketch models throughout the design process. I personally believe that I work better with an item in front of me whether it be a sketch model or a mood/ sample board
The image to your left illustrates my interior design skills and techniques. I believe that the course that Iam applying for can offer me the facilities and environment that i need to improve and excel at my skills.
This image is a quick sketch of a row of sandstone buildings situated within the city centre of Glasgow. I love developmental drawing, it gives me the time to relax yet at the same time produce some great sketches.
The image to your Left illustrates the different styles of drawing and painting techniques. I attended a Drawing & Painting evening class to improve my skills and techniques. The class was taken by Blair Thompson who is a practising Artists and attended the Glasgow School of Art.
This is the (Museum) Project were the brief gave me the freedom to choose an item to put on display and develop the museum around that object. I chose the ps3 to display, my thinking behind this was that it would interest young kids and the big kids as well.
These two images to your left are sketches of the same item (a plank of wood). The image on the far left is an expressive sketch of the item using charcoal and ink.
Another big influence within my designs is deconstructive architecture. Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid are the two main architects that inspire i especially like Hadid's drawing of her designs using CAD.
The project to your Left is the Media suite Project, I enjoyed this project the most. The brief explained that I had five containers which I could display them in any way I wanted. I chose to place two of them together and one single container at ground level then balance two on top of the three containers.
The images to the left of you is a view of the Glasgow Architecture from the top floor of The Lighthouse and the image to the far left is an expressive sketch of a log. For these images I used pen and watercolours.
Personal Statement
From viewing my portfolio, my designs vary in context, use of materials etc but the one thing that remains constant throughout my designs is bold, vibrant colours. My main influences are Pop Artists such as Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol as there work is so out of the ordinary and eye-catching. I admire how Warhol worked his way from being an illustrator for a fashion magazine to a commercial Artist, Film Maker, Video Artist etc. The piece of art that stands out for me is ''ADs Chanel 1963-64''. This art piece appeals to me personally but also on an artistic point of view, i like how Warhol has used bold vibrant colours and print.
The project that I personally feel that i excelled at within all aspects (rendering, technical drawings etc) is the Media Suite Project. The brief gave me the freedom to experiment with the display of the 5 containers. The containers must consume a green room, toilets, hospitality area, interview space etc. I chose Pop Art as inspiration for this project as i like the use of bold vibrant colours which i believe i have done so throughout the design. Throughout the design i have used curving (walls and screens) to give specific areas privacey. Within the 3 containers at ground level I have used curving shapes and forms, where as the two containers that are placed on top i have used straight, dynamic and edgy shapes to create a contrast between the two floors.
Throughout my portfolio there are subtle hints of Deconstructive Architecture, which is a big inspiration to my designs. I especially admire Zaha Hadid's work as it is so striking and eye catching. I specifically like Hadid's CAD drawings/ sketches as they look so realistic and breath taking. ''The Peak'' is one of many paintings that Zaha Hadid has produced. The art peace won Zaha Hadid the competition for The Peak Leisure Club. The painting appeals to me as there is so much happening in the painting visually. The dynamic, jagged forms resemble buildings/ architecture. with the use of different tonnes the buildings stand out more.
From visiting the University I personally believe that the campus has plenty to offer and the environment where i can excel at my skills as an Interior Designer
